the victorian xmas fair

well, the fair was good fun! i felt like such an idiotx in the car, and when we first got there, and there were only a few other people in costume apart from the stall holders, but after a while i stopped feeling self conscious! a few people took my photo, and stopped me to say how nice and festive i looked! i decided i would be much too cold just in my dress so i pulled a fur coat appart that i had bought for bear making and used safety pins to turn the front into a muff! i also made a cloak from a huge piece of pink wool i found in the stash, and lined it with a burgundy duvet cover mummy bought for me. i just cut the biggest semi circle i could, using one selvege as the diameter, and measured another semicircle with a radius the length from my nose to the nape of my neck using the same centre point, i then gathered along this line to make the hood.
they had a lovely oldfashion hurdy gurdy, or fair groung organ, and a steam engine, so mummy and clare took photos of me 'posed'!!
PS it was friggin freezing!!!!

bonnet

whew, i never would have thought i could make a bonnet totally from scratch in a day and a half!! i didn't have a pattern as i said before, so relied heavily on the fabulous photos [livejournal.com profile] koshka_the_cat posted of the making of her bonnet. i also had a coulpe of books of hats and bonnets and kept browsing the interwebs for different angles. i used cream ribbed silk in the end, left over from a dress i made at college, trimed with the sik ribbon i bought from the states and some watered pink silk taffeta from an 80s dress i bought in a charity shop and some pink flowers and a pink feather.
