i just spent the last half an hour trying to make my poor little brain work out how much fabric it'll take to make mummy's skirt. i THINK i've worked it out :) but i'm worried cause it doesn't sound like enough!
her skirts are 42", i usually do 3 panels of fabric (this one is 56") so that would be 144" for the base skirt (if i do it that wide) i want 3 flounces, 14" visible length. the second 2 will be 14" with 4" of overlap, 4" for the hem and 1" for the header, so 23", and 4 panels each, (1/3 bigger) so that's 184". and the top flounce is 14" plus 2" header and 4" hem, so 20", and will be the same width as the base, so that's 60". so, added up that's 388" total. i've cut the bodice already, and at the MOST conservative (because of the bias strip cutting) i have well over 3 yards left, more than plenty to cut the day bodice.
i was going to put the flounces on a cotton base, but i couldn't decide which colour, (and would have to go and buy it!) but maybe i should, then if i ever want to make another dress from the fabric i probably could. but, will i want to? i don't think mummy and i really want to match :) i could always use it to line a paletot or something, i suppose ;)
i'm really not doing so well with this whole sewing thing! i have half term next week, so maybe i might pull my finger out then!
