museums in NY

i want to see costumes! where do i go!
am i wrong in remembering the metropolitan museum of art? is it like the V and A? with all sorts of decorative arts from all over, so that clare and mummy will not be too bored?
any where really good and not too expensive to eat in the garment district?
so very excited now!!!
also, what IS the rockefeller centre?!

ETA, wow, i should have written down what lara told me, she answered all my questions then i think! but any good places to eat you can throw at me ...!?

I think the Museum of the City of New York currently has an exhibit of NYC interiors in which the mannekind are wearing period clothes:

Ummm....that word was mannekins though I am not so sure of my spelling!
