Yes, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is wonderful and has the Costume Institute downstaris from the Eguptian exhibits. I am sorry to say that I believe the costume institute is currently between major exhibits. The Poiret exhibit closed in August and the next one opens in December I think. I am not sure what ir if they are displaying any garments at the moment.

Rockefeller center is a few buildings near touristy shopping, Radio City Music Hall and St. Patrick's Cathedral. It is best known for the plaza with the ice rink where the big christmas tree is every year. If you like ice skating it is a fun thing to do and the rink is now open. http://rapatina.com/iceRink/

Here is a link to the post where I told you all about the garment district.

I think the Museum of the City of New York currently has an exhibit of NYC interiors in which the mannekind are wearing period clothes:

I'd like to see that exhibit too.

On Tuesday Oct 16th I'll be in midtown for doctor appt at 4pm. I could meet up with you before or after if you like. I was thinking of possibly seeing the film Elizabeth the Golden Age that night with my friend Alexia (LJ Bobblegra).

There's an excellent organic restaurant on Amsterdam between 74th and 75th, called Josie's. Excellent food, and the last time we ate there, Bernadette Peters sat at the table next to us!

Bernadette Peters is one of our greatest musical stars of the past 30 years, as well as being a great actress. She was in Sondheim's Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park with George, and she was in Steve Martin's film the Jerk and was also in the film version of Pennies from Heaven. She is best known to later generations as the voice of Rita the Cat in the Animaniacs cartoons here in the States. She was also wonderful as the Countess Sophie in the film Impromptu with Hugh Grant and Judy Davis. She's one of my favorite performers, because she can be funny one minute and break your heart with sadness the next. And she's absolutely gorgeous in a very 30's sort of way. If you Google her, you'll see what I mean.

The FIT museum has a wonderful sounding exhibit on Luxury currently up. Their museum is pretty small but very nice.
