Yesterday was wonderful! The weather was glorious, the sun was shining and there was just enough of a gentle breeze to cool us down to the perfect temperature! As always,

We arrived at the car park at half past eleven, and first things first took some photos ;)

Photobucket

I'm so so happy with my outfit, it's exactly what I wanted it to be! The new corset was super comfy all day (except when I ate a bit too much at lunch time!) I was lovely and cool with my arms and throat exposed and my hat was fabulous ;)

Photobucket

I watched 'A room with a View' ALOT when I was making the waist, I really liked Lucy's shorter sleeves, and I'm glad I went for them because even in the thin muslin I think I would have been rather uncomfortable in long sleeves! The belt as I said before, came from either my Great Grandmother or her sister, I'm pretty sure it has the original ribbon, it's velvet and is either silk or rayon, definitely not modern. It was a full yard that had not been trimmed, so I was able to let it out the 5" or so I needed ;)

We had a few minutes to wait for the first sailing, so we sat outside the cafe, eating ices and watching the boats on the reservoir. Then it was time to board, and time for a phto-op :)

Photobucket

The boat trip was great fun, it was fascinating to learn about how they made the reservoir, building the dam (1 mile thick at the base!) the villages that were drowned as the water level rose, and the church that they saved by building an island up around it:

Photobucket

This is only the very top of the church, the rest is below the water level!

Mummy was so glad I didn't have time to make her any girl's kit, she was so comfy in her boating suit! The jacket came from school, the trousers from a charity shop, the shirt is a silk one of my dad's from Hong Kong in the '70s and the waistcoat I made the night before :)

Photobucket

I had a lovely shot of me looking out over the water, but managed to delete it by accident :'( So you have to make do with this one of me looking not so good...

Photobucket

After the boat trip we got our picnic and went and found a tree on the bank.

Photobucket

My first (of many!) plateful of food:

After a little while though, we realised we had set up our picnic on the sunny side of the tree, so we picked everything up and moved round into the shade!

Photobucket

Dreadful behaviour I know, but my feet were hurting!

After lunch came nap time ;)

All in all, the perfect day out :)

Your shirtwaist is just plain gorgeous! Well done! Where did you find the fabric for that? I can see a lovely design in it in the sheer sleeves.
The photo of you leaning back on the picnic blanket is beautiful.
And what's below the water level of the church? Like a basement? There's an entire area of Seattle, Washington that was built up above the water level, so now the ground floor of the shops are the basements. You can tour them (called the Underground Tour) and in some areas can look up thru grates and see people walking on the sidewalks above you.

I got the lace yoke from the Victorian festival in Wales, a lady who used to attend every year had died and asked for her lace collection to be sold to the festival attendees, I got a lot of pieces!

Thank you! Would you believe it, the fabric is a sheer cotton curtain from Ikea!
I really like that photo too ;) Yes, below water level is like a basement I think, we didn't have time to go in.

Then you're officially a member of the "Costume made from a Curtain Club"! I made my Edwardian lingerie dress from a sheer embroidered cotton batiste shower curtain I bought at our Target Department Store. :)
I even made a joke at CoCo one year asking everyone at the Orientation if they had noticed their shower curtains, and thought they could make a dress from it. I got a lot of laughs but started them thinking.
