Pretty plaid accents :)
Jul. 26th, 2011 11:44 pmI've been rather bad about getting down to sewing properly, and feel like an idiot, because if I carry on like this I won't get everything done in time! But I have made some progress today, not least tackling, and hopefully conquering, sleevils!
Anyway, I took some photos of the false waistcoat fitting I did this afternoon, and

I keep changing my mind about the buttons, I found some pretty silver ones in my stash that I might use, instead of making pink cover buttons. I'll have to see how it is with all the trim in place ( I have a very exciting plan for the trim! Let's just say, this dress is going to be firmly placed in 1875-6 when I'm finished with it, and I'm going to have to find a hanky pretty enough to match ;)

I'm hoping the plaid sleeves will work, I don't see why they shouldn't, but they're a bit stark just pinned to the dress on Meg's shoulders, hopefully, when they're properly set and the cuffs and collar are done, they'll blend in more.

I'm of two minds now whether to do the long loopy bow thing. I really like the effect of the V over the dark pink skirt, and I really can't afford to take much more out of the francaise petticoat!! My trimming will use every last possible scrap of yardage, and I may still have to rob a teeny bit more of the petticoat for a frill or two! I'm loving the fact this dress is based on the re-making of two other garments, I'm so green ;)
Ugh, tomorrow I really must work harder, we're away Sunday and Monday, so that's even less time till the demo!!
