on tuesday we got a house! let me tell you the story, are you sitting comfortably? then i'll begin!
we have always lived in old houses, but it used to be ok coz when there was a leak or ceilings fell down daddy was there to fix it, and he was always in the middle of remodelling, trying to make the rooms more usable. i've never liked this house, but while we were trying to make it better i put up with it. but since daddy died, leaving so much undone, we've now had more problems than i can count, roofs leaking everywhere being only one of the problems! so we finally gave in and decided to look for a new house, and when i say new, i mean brand new, still being built :)
after a bit of searching we found the village we want to live in, it's about 20 minutes away from where we live now, and much bigger while still being a village. it has more thn one pub! and it has a post office and a little supermarket, so when we run out of milk or flour i can just walk to the end of the road and buy some, instead of having to get out the car. barrow upon soar it is!
there are 2 developments in barrow, one on the outskirts on one side, and one the other. to start with we preferred the one nearer to us, and fell in love totally with one of their hose types. but when we went back again to look at the specific plot we didn't like it, it's so hemmed in with a tiny garden, and it was the most expensive house we looked at. before we decided this we went again to look at the other development, clare hadn't seen it yet, but mummy and i quite liked it when we saw it. there were 3 house types that would have suited us, the biggest one that we liked best had all been sold, but on friday they told us there had been a cancellation, so it was back in the running. we all fell in love with this house type, and the plot that was available again was the best one in the development! it's not in the estate but it and 2 others are on the road, with old village houses on both sides of them. it also has the biggest garden :)
so, we decided on the house we liked, but the last time it went on the market people wanted it so much they were queuing from 5 in the morning, when the office opens at 10:30 :) so we had to decide how much we wanted it - mummy and i were queuing from 4:30!!!! we felt so silly! but we felt less silly when a chap came at 7 who loved 10 minutes away and had woken at 3 thinking, 'hmm, shall i go?' so if he had, we wouldn't have got the house :)
when the sales girl arrived things started to progress, but when she finally got hold of her bosses they said the paper work wasn't ready so she couldn't reserve the house for us. cue instant despair! she said as far as she was concerned as soon as the house was available it was ours, so since there was a real time constraint she sent us off to the show rooms to make our decisions about the kitchen and tiles and floor coverings and things. while we were there she called us and said they had decided since we were so keen that they would rush things and had given her a price so we were to go back after we had chosen everything and sign the paperwork!
yay! new house! we have a meeting next week with the site manager and he will show us the house and the boundaries and we can see how much more house there is than last week! and we should be in before christmas!!!!
we had a call yesterday about our current house, the planners want things in writing, so it'll take a while to get things sorted, and we'll have to pay for outline planning permission, but our agent thinks the buyer is still really interested. with any luck we'll be able to move into the new house before we have to move out of this one, which makes things so much easier!
