sorry i've been MIA for so long, i've been sewing so hard :)
mummy now has a full set of undies, and a plaid wool day dress trimmed with black velvet ribbon and fringe with black jet buttons, all absolutely finished (except her drawers are currently fastened with one blue and one gold ribbon drawstring, and the blue ribbon is about 3 yards long :) she also has a bonnet, and it's soooo pretty! i know you shouldn't say that about your own things, but it is!!!! her ball gown is finished except for hooks and bars, i want to do eyelets, but have no chance of getting them done because.... i made myself a new day bodice from the left over ball gown fabric! it is so lovely if i do say so myself :) i don't think i'll manage to get pictures up before we go to the ball, but i promise lots of photos of the weekend as soon as i can when we get back.
the plan for the weekend is, arrive friday afternoon, dance practice saturday morning, lunch (in a restaurant somewhere probably, getting lots of funny looks!) then get ready for the ball on saturday evening, and a get together before everyone goes home on sunday. i will wear my white dress for the practice and my new bodice on the sunday, because they share the same skirt i don't want to risk a disaster with my skirt at the practice ruining the ball.
i'm back at work on tuesday :( i have lots and lots to do, and no doubt will be faced with a panicking boss first thing, worrying about the costumes and the set and the props, as if i hadn't thought of anything, not what i want when i'm worried myself :)
but i can't relax cos i need to make a nw ball gown for the may ball, i can't really go to a ball on my birthday (it's not ACTUALLY in my honour! though i like to think it is!!) in an old dress now can i?! i have some lovely dusky pink silk to make it from, i just have to decide on a style!
then i can finally get on to CC stuff, i want to make a robe a la francaise, a printed jacket and a wool round gown, i did want to make an open gown from the wool so i could use the wool petticoat to go with the printed jacket, but i think a round gown will be more fun to make, and the jacket will go with the muslin petticoat just as nicely. these with my blue anglaise should be enough shouldn't they? i wish i could just wear my 1860s stuff, it'd save me so much time :) but no, i wouldn't have a reason to make the 18th century stuff otherwise :p
after i've got the CC stuff made, but before i go )it had better be!) i need to make more 1860s stuff for the victorian festival in wales, which is at the end of august. i need to make mummy more stuff at least, i could propbably manage just with what i've got, but mummy definitely can't, wool in august? even a british august that's just silly! so i want to make her a day bodice to go with her ball gown skirt and a cotton print dress, don't know what it'll be like exactly, if i can another ball gown would be nice, since there are 2 big balls, one at each end of the week, and tea dances during the week. i want to make a garibaldi blouse, a black swiss waist and a black zuave jacket ( i think it's a zuave jacket i want to make!) these i can wear with my blue skirt and with my pink skirt, i think i'll also make a day bodice from the pink silk, then even i should have enough changes for a week, when you think i can wear my bathing costume one day, it is a spa resort after all! mummy doesn't really need as many dresses as me does she, she's not a young thing out to grab a husband is she :p
wow, when you right it down that sure is a stupid amount i need to make, during my busiest term at school as well, what on earth am i thinking!!!
