a weekend of the wrong kind of sewing
Feb. 3rd, 2009 01:28 pmhm, LJ would appear to have thrown away my last entry! it was just mutter about the fact that all my sew-jo is being eaten by work! and a list of stuffs i needed to buy but couldn't cause i was at work! clare came home for the weekend, which was lovely!
as expected i spent the weekend making doll stuff :) i've nearly finished turning a dog bed into a sofa for my girls, i'll take pics when it's done.
i did manage to get into town to buy the threads i needed, turns out that the fabric shop has had silk threads for aaaages, and i just didn't notice :) they had the tule i wanted too, i'm re-trimming my blue ball gown. i'm going to make a tule overskirt looped up with flowers in pinks and whites, and, to (mis)quote amy march (i don't have the book with me to check!) i will 'swathe my pretty white shoulders in a cloud of illusion' i was thinking about making an overbodice from the tule, but i think i'll make a bertha like arrangement and over sleeves, not sure if the sleeves will be little puffs or long ones, we'll see! hopefully my pearl set will go with, instead of the turquoise i usually wear.
i still need to get to work on mummy's ballgown again, i have no excuse now since i have the thread, but i need to get ribbon and maybe some tule, but black veiling is so hard to find (wonder why :p i guess there's not much call in the bridal world!)
i was also looking for some more of the cotton gauze i got ages ago to make a regency dress. i think i must have forgotten why i got so much, i used about a quarter of it to make my pinner apron! i want to make long sleeves, and frills at the hem, so i don't think i have enough :(
any way, even though the weekend was 'wasted' on doll's clothes, i could have spent yesterday more productively! we've had loads of snow, 6" yesterday, so we decided not to try to drive into work, instead, after we got clare to the train mummy and i spent the day watching tv! the film '27 dresses' (which was very funny!) and catching up on the current series of 'lark rise to candleford' the dresses in that are so amazing! it makes me want to make a whole 1890s wardrobe for the victorian festival! bad megan! i must work on what we need in the next few months! emmy loved the snow though! she was so funny trying to find the snowballs i threw for her :D
but i'm at work, and gwendolin's dress is nearly finished, and i need to measure another girl before i can work on her costume, and they don't have a drama lesson again this week, and i missed their lesson today :( so this week might be very very boringly unproductive.
