Hard work at home and abroad
Jun. 8th, 2009 01:11 pmWow, work is hard at the moment! We're doing the yr7 (11 or 12 year olds) production in a week, there are 60 odd children and most of them have more than one costume, we actually have proper painted scenery for this play as well, which muggins has to do, along with finding, fixing and making props. Lots of work, and I'm supposed to be part time! I'll be in every day this week, as well as last, plus working on Sunday, and then staying late practically every day next week, including Saturday :(
All this means that I don't have much time at home to get ready for the next demo on the 21st. This weekend we're off to another dance group that's just starting up, so that's nearly all of Saturday gone, and the rehearsal on Sunday, plus dance practice in the afternoon.
I started work on my blue plaid cotton 1860s, but it took me much longer to pattern the sleeves than I thought it would, so I hadn't got very far at all by yesterday afternoon. I decided to work on it because my beige cotton from last Summer got filthy over the winter, and I thought I'd never get it clean, but Mummy dunked and scrubbed it in a bowl of soapy water in the agrden last week, and it came up very nice, not perfectly clean, but a million times better than it was! So I can wear that for the demo. Yesterday was very cold and very stormy, and I thought 'I'm going to freeze in my blue silk regency with short sleeves' I don't want to rush through my spencer since I have so little fabric, so I decided to make up a striped linen I bought a while ago for a long sleeved regency. It's quite a solid weight as well, so hopefully it'll keep me nice and warm :) I started at about 3, and by the time we went to dancing practice I'd made the bodice and cut out the sleeves, so hopefully I can get it done! I'm doing a bib front, so I'll have to pattern the 'bib' but I hope by leaning heavily on Arnold I should be OK!!
Of course, this means I need a different hat of some kind, the blue won't go I think. I have a lovely straw bonnet form that just needs ribbon and brim lining, so I think I'll do that. I must remember to order the ribbon when I get home!!
I'm hoping to be able to make Clare something for regency when she comes home too, she's not coming till the 16th though. I plan to just make a bodiced petticoat and dress, using my spare chemisette, and I have a spare straw bonnet that will probably do. I think if I use a comercial pattern as well, I should manage, especially if I set Clare to work making mockups etc while I'm at work :) Luckily I have some fabric that will suit her, although, what I have is fabric for a ball gown with fabric for an over robe like Marrianne Dashwood's that together will make a lovely day ensemble, but I'm worried the dress will look very wrong without the overrobe in the daytime, so I might make elbow length sleeves, not quite so ballgown-y as a puff, but much more day dress-y :)
Oh, and this morning I had to be at the Hospital on the other side of town at 8:45 for my ultra sound scan. I need to make an appointment to see my GP either at the end of the week or on Monday to get the results, so soon I'll know if I have gallstones or not.
