Well, as you can tell from the subject, I decided I had been a good enough girl yesterday :p I did sort out both Clare's petticoat and skirt hems, and sorted out her mannequin, which took forever, she's so tiny!! So now I can start to sort out her cream silk dress :(
Anyway, onto my bonnet! I had a tiny piece of the lovely minty green silk taffeta from my pet en l'air left in my stash, but not quite enough to do my usual plain covered bonnet. There wasn't a piece big enough to cut out the brim pattern, but there was a long thin bit, so I decided to try to work out how to do a drawn bonnet, or at least, a drawn brim bonnet, there wasn't a bit big enough to draw the crown side too!! I also pleated the tip covering for a bit more interest.
Any way, enough waffle, I know you want to see the photos!! The green is much bluer in real life, quite minty not at all lime, those of you at CosCol last year might remember it! So, since there are many

I'm so glad I decided on pink trim, I love it! Well, I'm a costumer, of course I love pink and green :p I think you may have to wait till the weekend for photos on my own head, when I'm wearing my new dress for the demo ;)

I suppose I really shouldn't be sat here doing this right now, I need to work on Clare's dress, so off I go like a good little girl!!

okay... you need to stop making such amazing, beautiful bonnets... :-P

I WANT ONE!!!! but i have no money, and they seem to be expensive (pattern, materials, shipping...). any advice?

Well, I had no pattern, made it up using cardboard cereal boxes, and I use buckram meant for curtain pelmets that I buy in the local home furnishings shops. The millinery wire is a bit expensive, I ran out and had to use cheap jewellery wire for the little bonnet I made at the weekend, it's 0.8mm and worked really well! Then it's mulled with cotton flannel, again from the home furnishings place! you could probably use old sheets!!! And like I said, you can use the tiniest scraps of silk for coverings :p Or velvet from a thrift store skirt or something? The ribbons are rayon moire from ebay, flowers from that same home furnishings shop :p the only expensive thing on this one is the feathers, but I usually use ostrich plumes from the local haberdashers, and the brown feathers on my brown velvet bonnet came from Michaels I think, when I was in LA last year, they were only a couple of dollars.
I did a bonnet making how to a couple of years ago I think, I'll look for it for you, but if you can afford one, I'd get a pattern, SOOOO much easier!!!

wow! you've really inspired me! i generally think i'm pretty crafty and resourceful, so maybe making up my own pattern wouldn't be as frightening as i thought. i have a couple bonnets i can use as a base too. i just definitely don't have the money for even a pattern since i quit my job. hmmm... you're giving me sneaky thoughts about bonnets! :]

Oh of course, I forgot you have ready made bonnets, you should be able to take a pattern off one really easily!!!! And if I can find my how-to that'll give you an idea of the process, I learnt millinery at college, so I know at least I'm doing it right :p
