playing with millinery

So, I've finished trimming my hat for Sunday, and I love it! It has a huge felt dahlia, 2 orange poppies, a brown hydrangea leaf and 2 large, vertical, pointy ribbon ends. All sounds rather odd when you list it like that, but I think it looks pretty cool :) My hat will be rather more up to date than the rest of my outfit, but I'll just say I've updated an old suit with a brand new hat, I'm sure they did that back in the day.
Now, the only trouble is, if I take off the ribbons and replace them with ostrich feathers the hat would be absolutely perfect for the 1920s outfit I'm taking to CosCol, but how on earth do I get a large, fragile straw hat on the plane without looking like a total numpty?!

I've always worn them. I got loads of compliments on my suffragette hat and I'll be wearing this:



on the plane this time :)

Have you ever worn one on a non-internal flight? I'm worried about getting it through security. Although, I suppose they have people taking wedding hats on planes all the time... also worried it might get squashed while on board since I can't sleep in it, so it'll have to go in the overhead locker. It all sounds so tricky, even if I can get past the fear of numptyness ;)

Exactly why Jenny-Rose will be getting a nice package of hats in February or March :)

I think I put mine under the seat? Or my lap? You'd think I'd remember. Of course, it was an hour flight, which changes things.

Getting it past security wasn't an issue. Hats shouldn't be risks! And it's obvious they can't be packed...

I do have another hat option, which I don't think I love as much, but if it's a toss-up between a slightly less pretty hat or trying to sleep sitting upright with one on my head, I know which I prefer!!!
