I am alive! I'm so sorry I've been absent so long, (I have been reading my Flist, and commenting some, not enough though!) I've been busy sewing, but most of the time I've just not felt like posting, I'm in a bit of a funk at the moment, I think there's definitely something in the air! Anyway, this weekend definitely needs a post!
On Saturday we had a Victorian Ballmoral ball, for which I of course needed something new! and on Sunday we were supposed to be going to a National Trust place, but ... things went a bit wrong.

This blue plaid silk has definitely had a good life! I made the skirt last winter for the Russian demo, (to be worn with a pale blue velvet bodice trimmed with white swansdown) then this summer I made a yellow silk over-skirt and a bodice from both the yellow silk and the blue plaid, finally, and now I've used gold silk charmeuse and gold lace for this latest incarnation :)

I was all ready for our trip to the NT place, I spent last week making a new dress, finishing it just in time, and I even spent Saturday afternoon, (after finishing work in the shop in the morning and decorating the hall after lunch, but before getting ready in the evening) making a black wool capelet to go with a new black fur muff cover. Luckily, we got home from the ball earlier than usual, so I had just enough time to sew the fur trim onto the capelet before bed, knowing I could finish the collar and sew the hooks on in the morning. The clocks went back ( or forward, I always get muddled! We got an extra hour in bed anyway!) so I was up nice and early and finished my capelet, got mummy dressed and we were just putting our gloves on ready to go meet our friends, when they rang to say Mel was sick and the others didn't really feel like going anyway. Pooh!! I was NOT going to get changed, so I dragged mummy out anyway! we decided to go to a local park to find some pretty Autumnal scenery, taking Emmy with us of course!

We stopped at a local steam train station, which we'd never been to, just in case it was good enough for our photo shoot :)

The station wasn't really the thing, so we were off to the park!

In the carpark a lovely lady took our photo to show her grandkids, so I gave her my camera too :)

A quick detour off the path for some nice foliage :)

Out of the woods, and onto the hills :)

The smoke in the distance is from the steam train that was just leaving the station as we arrived.

The wind was so cold, we didn't quite make it all the way to the top of the hill. I wanted to get some shots of the three of us clambering over the stones at the base of Old John, but I guess that will just have to wait for next year. I'm determined to go again in the summer, I've wanted to have a picnic in kit up there for ages, and now we know how easy it is (although bloomin cold in October!) I'm determined we shall!

I'm so glad I had time to make my capelet! It's thick wool melton, lined in figured silk taffeta, trimmed with black curly lamb fur, with a silk lined fur collar, and it was so snuggly!

When we got home out of the mud I un-bustled my train for a quick pic before we went into the house. We got changed, warmed up with a nice cup of tea, and went out to the pub for Sunday lunch :)

So, all in all, while it wasn't what we'd planned, we had a nice Sunday anyway!
