becoming jane
Mar. 15th, 2007 08:47 amsaw becoming jane last night, and it was exactly what i expected, totally twaddle! there were hardly any bits in the plot that happened, which i expected, but i didn't expect they would change her family so totally. her father was well respected in the neighbourhood, and was NOT poor, and even jane had £50 pounds a year, so she wasn't totally penniless, she had the same fortune actually as the bennet girls, "£1000 a piece in the 4%". and by ignoring her brother Francis and his fine fortune from his adopted family they made the girl's future seem destitute, when they had a free home from him for half their lives. and why they included george? he never lived with the family.
i was pleasantly surprised that they didn't make her too much of a prissy english maiden, but she was no where near as catty as she seems from her letters, where was her famous wit?
i liked the fact that the rest of the cast were costumed well for the period, but why they had jane in what seemed more like 1820s than anything else i don't know! and at the end, several years later, why on earth did she have 1860s hair?!!!
looking forward with trepidation now to the ITV season!
