fittings and new fabric
Mar. 10th, 2009 01:25 pmi was planning to post the photos from mummy's fitting, but photobucket has been blocked at work! so photos later :)
the fitting went well, the skirt is alright as is, if i can be bothered it could do with the bottom flounce being moved down a bit, but i'll cope with it as it is for now i think. the waist is a bit too small, but i left the last 2 inches of cartridge pleating to sew after the fitting, hopefully there'll be enough to spread out.
stupid useless me though, didn't do any sewing this weekend! what's the matter with me?! i went into town to do some fabric shopping, and had success! i wanted some wool for another wool dress. mummy and i both need one i think, so the purple i bought ages ago will be for one of us, and the new wool for the other. i decided to use the purple for mummy and the new for me, i didn't think she'd like the colour, i was right! it's red, i said tomato red, but mummy said it's not orange enough for that, either way, it's lovely! it's challis with a lovely fine hand. i'm going to trim it with rouched brown silk ribbon, and do crazy big gathered coat sleeves with largish white fold-back cuffs.
we also went to see the young victoria on saturday, it was wonderful! lovely costumes, beautiful film to look at and a sweet love story played by very very good actors, well worth seeing i think! and then on sunday afternoon the newest member of our dance group came to talk over the clothes she's going to make for our demos and the ball in april. i think i scared her a bit with the amount of STUFF we have! but she went away with a plan of action, and hopefully feeling better about what she's going to do!
at dancing i got the ribbon i ordered from farmhouse fabrics. back in the autumn i ordered some black silk satin ribbon to trim the purple wool dress, and some dotted swiss to make a regency day gown. it never came, and they didn't know what happened to it, our post office were no help, so i gave up and assumed the order was lost and ordered the ribbon again. imagine my surprise when i opened it and there were 2 lots of ribbon and my dotted swiss!!! she said that the missing order had been sent back to them that week. i wish they'd told me, then i wouldn't have got more ribbon! what am i going to do with it all?!?
work is really bugging me at the moment, i'm having trouble with lady bracknel's dress, it fits, i did a fitting today of the bodice and skirt, no sleeves yet. but it's kind of ... boring. it's a maroon lace skirt and pouched front bodice, and will have a maroon satin zouave jacket with biiig sleeves. trouble is it's all the same colour at the moment, and i don't know what to do to lift it. i think i'll have to take photos to show you. don't have my camera today though, of course. just wish it was over :(
