A bit of millinery and Lola Montez
Aug. 2nd, 2009 01:07 amI had hoped to be up early today, ha ha!! When I finally did surface I started work on the bonnet I had promised the small girl in our dance group for her birthday. I used my new fanchon pattern, this time in silk covered buckram, nice and dainty for her small head! Then I had to go into town to get some ribbon for ties and trim, so I also went to look for some fabric to make a white bodice for the 1860s. I found the perfect fabric, I already bought some to make a regency gown, and was so glad they still had it so I could get some more! This is the fabric:
And I shall be making this from it : http://www.thegracefullady.com/civilwargowns/originals_waists.htm (the one at the top)
So, the bonnet is finished and with it's new owner (I have photos that I'll show tomorrow, once the camera batteries are charged) but this evening we spent with friends watching a film about Lola Montez, a very scandalous woman in the 19th century, so I've not been able to do any other sewing, but the thing we were going to do tomorrow has been cancelled (because of the rain!!!) so hopefully I'll be able to get on with my undersleeves. I wanted to make a new bonnet, but the place in the market that I get my flowers from is closed till Thursday, and I forgot to get some more buckram, so maybe I'll get my millinery fix by putting fresh flowers in an old bonnet instead :)
And look, second day of my week of posting and I managed to keep it up!!
