Well, having taken time out to work on my frilly bonnet this morning I decided to be a good girl and charge on with Clare's alterations. The cream silk bustle outfit I made at college is really too long for Clare, and was very heavy, so we made a new bustle and petticoat, much lighter than the old one, and I decided to shorten the underskirt and pollonaise dress. I bustled up the overdress a bit more than it already was, and now I just have to sew on a button and find some replacement hooks and eyes. The skirt I had made with a heavy cotton backing, so I cut it out of all the seams and hacked off a huge chunk of the length, I had to keep a little bit of a train to make it lie right, but nothing like as long as long and heavy as before. Having made it shorter the 2 frills at the hem no longer fitted, so I only put back one, and being silk satin they are quite heavy, so even more weight is gone, I think in all I took about half of the weight out of the skirt!! Hopefully she will be a lot more comfortable now!! So now I just need to fix up a skimpy chemise for her to wear under her green ballgown (the one she has is too high and the shoulders poked out all night) and she's sorted.
Then at 4 o'clock we went to see the specialist about my gallstones. He's going to take out my gallbladder, and the wait is about 6-10weeks, so hopefully my opp won't be while I'm on holiday in Kent or at the Jane Austen festival!!! Keep your fingers crossed for me that the wait is nearer 10 weeks than 6 :p
