Well, this morning was a bit pants, but by mid afternoon I was on a roll :) I'm working on my pelise, using the gorgeous chocolate brown silk velvet I got in the garment district when I was in LA for CosCol. I had planned to use the Sense and Sensibility pattern, but hated the first mockup, so I used the fronts from the pattern with my side back pieces and used my back as a base to drape the high necked backs. Once I'd got it looking how I wanted I jumped straight into the silk. I'm pretty pleased with how it's turning out, there have been a few mistakes, but I always looked at this as my trial run before I make up my blue wool spencer, and the mistakes have been the good kind - too much fabric so you can cut away, not too little so you have to cut another piece! I also realised that I could spare a little bit of the lovely spotty latte coloured silk I bought to make a day gown to line the body of the pelise with, I'm lining the sleeves with china silk and leaving the skirts unlined I think, although ... maybe I might decide to be ridiculously decadent and use the silk just to line this pelise, the skirts would look amazing when blown back by the wind!! Hmm, perhaps I could replace it next year when I'm in LA? ( Those of you at CosCol this year, did you notice if Home Fabrics still had the silk? It's the figured stuff with tiny dots that Jenny-la-Fleur used for her pearl gown, if they had it this year too, there's a good chance they'll have it next!!)
Any way, here's hoping I can keep up the good work tomorrow, it's funny how even in the holidays I'm incapable of working on the weekend :p But School starts this week :( I'm going in on Wednesday, but not a whole day thank goodness, I'll have to really try hard to get down to some sewing when I get home, knowing my track record ... :D
