a tiring day :(
May. 19th, 2007 10:49 pmwell, we took winnie back this morning, and they were so understanding about it all, and very pleased we were able to tell them how good she was with the little boy next door. we stayed out and got some shopping done, giving clare some much needed fresh air, and when we got back i made a lovely carrot and parsnip soup for lunch, to try and boost clare's immune system. then i finalised my mockups and cut out all of the main pieces for the bathing dress :) so hopefully there will be lots of progress tomorrow! i'm trying to decide what to do with the seams on the inside? i'm not lining it, and it's a fairly closely woven wool, so maybe just overcasting the edges might work, but i wondered about binding the seams with tape, to be more hard wearing? i think i have enough tape to do the bodice, and the bloomers could be done later, there isn't really going to be any rubbing on those seams.
this coming week should be very empty work wise, since i've had such full weeks recently, so i'm hoping i'll be able to make a new dress as well for friday - the sheer white striped summer dress i've been planning for months :) wish me luck!!

Date: 2007-05-20 12:21 pm (UTC)Want to know something funny? I have never had a parsnip. In my mind, I always thought they would taste like a turnip (which I really don't care for), but having actually SEEN one now that I have moved here, they look more like a white-ish carrot. Makes me wonder if they taste more like a carrot instead.

Date: 2007-05-20 06:04 pm (UTC)i think so too, i guess everything will work out great for everybody concerned, winnie is so sweet she'll find the perfect family, and we get a puppy :)
parsnips are lovely!!! i used to hate them though, but now i could eat a whole plateful of roast or fried parsnips in one go! if you're going to try them, buy smaller ones, they aren't so woody. cut in half width wise, and 'segment' them length wise, ie cut in half length wise, then cut each half in half lengthwise to get quarters, and if the leaf end is very fat cut each quarter again, so you have boat shapes. following me so far?! then bring them to the boil in a pan of plain water, drain, then while still warm fry slowly in lots of butter on a medium heat, turning so all 3 sides are brown, then DEVOUR!! they are soooo nice!! of course, they're also nice just boiled and mashed with lots and lots of butter :)
