i found nearly 5 meters of fine soft wool at school, in a lovely shade of red, like a dusky maroon. it is far too soft and drapy to use for the 1860s, and there's not enough. i've been trying to find out if it'd be suitable for a round gown, but keep finding only linen or silk. it looks like it might hang the same as linen, and i'm sure they must have worn warmer clothes, so wool must have been in their wardrobe, what do you 18th century buffs think? it'd be a nice addition to my 18th century wardrobe that i have planned :)

I see no reason why wool wouldnt be acceptable. Im no expert but I took a class on 18th century fabrics last CC with Sally Queen and I remember her mentioning just how prevalent wool was in clothing. It really was used for almost everything. Hope that helps! :)

Surely wool was used for the winter seasons. Think about how cold it would be at the rooms in the castles in winter time, only a coupple of meters from the fire place would be warm.

i knew they must have had thick wool dresses for warmth, i guess maybe i was worried mine was too fine. maybe i didn't ask the right questions :)
but if YOU say it's ok, i'm going for it :p
