i've made mummy's chemise and her corset is all sewn together, bones is in and the bust gores are waiting for a fitting to be sewn in (they're just pinned at the moment) i have false backs (lacing strips) and i sewed the front shut and put a couple of bones in to pretend to be a busk. i work on the principle that i'm likely to need adjustments front and back so i don't finish them till the very end, especially when i'm using a fabric that shows pin holes :)
her chemise is lovely i think, much more fancy than mine :( it has lace at the neck and hem and cuffs, and tucks at the hem too! i may be steelin it :)
i'm going to do another fitting with her today or tomorrow and will take photos then, i have to make some drawers first though, as the fabric for the chemise is very thin!
only trouble is, i really want to get on and just make her bonnet!! she can't really go to a ball in undies and a bonnet though, can she, however gorgeous it is!

hello! long time no hear!
i promise photos as soon as i've taken them :)
if you're at all interested in victorian dressing up we've joined a dance group and are having a ball in may, on the 10th, here in leicestershire. and we're going to another ball in wales in april organised by the people who do the victorian festival in august.

It sounds lovely! Early or Late Victorian? I wonder if we could be together enough for it by May. I'd love to go.

any victorian, or georgian, or edwardian, or... any thing :) really, the thing is to dress up and have fun! we obviously try to get the dances right, hence the weekly 'lessons' (ie we try and work out what the cryptic victorian instructions say, and make it up as we go along!!) we had a caller last time, and we had some complete newbies, who hadn't practised at all, and they seemed to do fine. they were also just in evening dress, so anything goes! i think you could even wear tudor or medieval without most people knowing any different!
you should come, it'll be great! plus it's on my birthday, it's a birthday ball in my honour :) if you want we have spare bedrooms now too (i love our new house!)
