we went to see sex and the city this morning, it was great! just like an entire series in one go, but better i think :) then our friend came over again to finish putting up the blinds, so i didn't get to have a fitting till late in the afternoon, but clare was super helpful, and we got all 3 done! and we took lots of pictures!!! so, you know what to do!!
hello little spider :)
first we did the print jacket, and silly me i forgot to take a pic with the green linen, it's a dark foresty green, and goes beautifuly.

the reason the shoulders look odd is because i tried it on with the sleeves only pinned in, and the shoulder strap doesn't have the print layer yet.

the print jacket now just needs eyelets, (which i will do on holiday probably) and a skirt and stomacher, which i will do tomorrow, and i won't do by hand i don't think, i need to get a move on!!
next up, the pet en l'air, i really didn't like the first go, i had too much fabric in the 'skirt' i think. also, this stomacher is from the print jacket,

unfortunately the photos came out a bit foreshortened, i don't think i looked that fat in real life :) any way, this is the fabric i'm using, it's a much nicer colour in person too, much more minty.

please excuse the goofy expression :p
then, my zone front gown for, hopefully, the gala.
Photobucket
i think i need to lower the point, but then again, the pic is a bit off.

it looks the most boring at the moment :) but, when it's made up in this...
Photobucket
i think it might look a bit more exciting, i hope so any way! i'm going to use the same butterfly lace from the 1860s ball gown to trim the neck and make sleeve ruffles, and trim the bodice in pink ruffles and pink covered buttons, what do you think? when i've made the bare bones of the bodice i'll post ideas, to get some more input, that's what we're all here for of course :p

so, i guess i better go to bed now, and i'll try really really hard to start sewing IN THE MORNING!!!

Much better!
Question: I've heard the term zone front before. What does it refer to exactly, and what year?

the zone front is, i think, just a trimming style. the bodice is made up of a solid pink 'under bodice' and a striped over bodice, following the curved line. then there will be a solid pink underskirt and a striped over skirt coming from the striped bodice, at the side seam.

This is an example of a zone front, but I like it better when the center bodice and the bust/shoulder pieces are different fabrics.

Ahh, so it's when it's split, or contrasting fabric? The photo was helpful. Thanks.
