here we go, it's only taken me about 3 hours to get my ass in gear to upload these :)
anyway,
mummy's dress is the same as the previous ball,
Photobucket
and look how pleased with herself she is :)

i added a hook and thread bar to the neck and waist drawstrings, but she still managed somehow to pop the bar on the waist!

i made aunty jac's dress from a dress from school that i wore for the 'medieval' evening in the summer, cutting off the long sleeves and silver trim, then i made an over dress from black lace, the width of the fabric, cut long enough, slit up the front and a scoop cut out to make the neckline. with a drawstring in the waist and neck, and elastic (gasp!) in the sleeves.

then there's my dress :) but i'll do another post for that i think :)

How did you make your mummy's turban? I'm contemplating trying something like that.

it was so easy! i cut a strip of gold fabric, abou a foot wide and as long as i had, and a strip of red (actually 2 strips, a horrid acetate lining and a sparkle organza layered together) the same, and 2 strips of net twice as wide. i 'scrunched' the net into a narrow strip and wrapped the fabric round it, gave it to mummy to hold while i did the other one, then we twisted them together (i do like having her extra hands, but if you don't have a mum handy, and want something more permanent you could sew it shut i guess). i wrapped them round her head to fit, and knotted them and pinned the ends under (just regular straight pins)then put it back on her head, pinned some feathers on and put a brooch over the pins.

oh, the ends are under the top, that's why it has that 'point', actually makes it so much better i think, that little bit of shaping!

Those are lovely. It's nice to see some older ladies looking fashionable but not mutton dressed as lamb.

Wow! They look fabulous. I really cannot express how much I love your mummy's dress. And the turban is a great touch. Very cool recycling of your dress for your Auntie.

I love your mothers dress. If you add ties inside the gown, attached at the side or side back bodice seams that tie together at the back before you fasten the dress it may help it stop popping open. Wish I could find some sari's like that.
