I did it!!
Aug. 12th, 2009 10:02 pmI managed to do what I wanted to do! I set out today to make Mummy's mantle, and I did! All it needs is a fastening at the throat, and maybe a fur collar (if I have enough left) and it's done! I also started crocheting a sontag and made a decorated net with matching neckbow. Finally a properly productive day :)
Any way, I took some photos, because I'm nice like that! They're

Mummy's mantle, all made from things in the stash - the damask I bought when I was thinking of making a tudory gown, the lining I bought because it was too cheap not to! The same with the fringe - I only just had enough!!

There's a ribbon to pull in the back at the waist, and the bow covers up all the ickyness of the pleated bit :)
I have some left over beautiful brown mink from a vintage fur coat that will hopefully stretch to a collar for the mantle as well as the trim on her winter hood, but the hood is more important, so the collar will have to wait!
And here, for your giggles! My decorated net and bow, don't they go beautifully with my outfit?!?! (And please ignore the unstyled hair!)

I also found a photo of us in action at our demo on Saturday, (shows the bodice of my new dress a little better too) look at Mummy's skirts, you wouldn't believe there was a crinoline in there!!

So tomorrow I will work on the alterations I need to make - my pale blue day dress bodice needs the neckline making bigger, it's a V-neck but it's too high at the moment, has been since I made it, what, 2 years ago?! Then my pink silk day bodice needs new sleeves, I hat the ones it has now, and undersleeves too (I hate undersleeves :( But I know I do have to have them, so I'll just suffer I guess!) I may make the bodice smaller too, since I've been on the gallstone diet (low fat!!) I've lost quite a bit of chub! And now of course my entire wardrobe no longer fits :( The pink bodice is the only thing I can really alter though, everything else would be too much work, they all have skirts attached to the waist piping.

And where did the crinoline go in that picture? Rather strange! You both look great though :)

Date: 2009-08-12 09:58 pm (UTC)I think Joe Public at the festival will think I'm very weird when I wear the net!! Especially if I team the bow with a T shirt :p
I think we're in the middle of a ladies' chain, we swirl out and turn on the spot when we change direction, and I think Mummy's just finished her swirl, and her skirts haven't caught up yet :)
