Slowly, slowly, with tiny baby steps :)

I had today and yesterday afternoon off work, I feel like I achieved rather little during all that time, but maybe I didn't.

I fitted Mummy's ballgown bodice pattern yesterday afternoon, over her new corset, and did some more work on attaching the waistband. Then today, I cut out the bodice and made it up, and I finally finished whipping the waistband onto the skirt, and I even did the centre back cartridge pleats!

I was thinking I would get round to piping the bodice today, but that didn't happen ;) What I have done though is play around with bertha decoration,


With flash the lace looks very stark against the red, but it's also easier to see and the sheen of the silk really shows up:



I haven't yet decided if I will do a seperate bertha, with the lace on the bottom with the pleated strip above it, or if I will just sew the lace and the strip to the bodice itself. The strip will be narrower (this is just a scrap pinned on to see the look) and it will be pinked, and I haven't yet decided if it will be rouched, or box pleats, or some kind of fancy pleat held in pretty shapes with beads, we'll see!



The sleeves will be the sleeves from one of the dresses in Patterns of Fashion, with the double puffed undersleeves and open oversleeves (I used the undersleeve on her plaid ballgown, without the open over sleeve) using the red silk for the oversleeves, and either black net or white muslin for the undersleeves. The hems of the oversleeves will be trimmed with the same strip (which ever way I decide to do it in the end!) as the bertha.


I have to go to work tomorrow morning, and then I have the dentist at half past two, which usually completely takes it out of me, so who knows if I'll get anything done tomorrow!

Thank you! It's such a striking combination isn't it? But then, I think black lace looks fabulous with anything :)
