so, my head is doing better (still not perfect, but the weather's still iffy) so you get the photos I promised!

The theme this time was 'A Victorian Olympian Ball' (not the Olympics, as I thought at first, but Mount Olympus!) I didn't really feel like dressing up completely, so this was my costume:

If any one can guess what I was, they get a cookie ;)

I need to loosen the tie inside the skirt, I forgot again that I have legs and Meg does not! I'm thinking of moving it in, I think it looks a bit odd pulling on the side seam.

I'm really pleased with my hair, I would have liked to do falling curls, with gold bandeaux maybe, it would have fit the theme better, but our old curly hairpiece is looking very sad and tired, we need a new one!

I had flowers, feathers and jewels on my head, along with the big chignon, so it was pretty heavy ;)

Boy was I glad to get that lot off my head!!

I really want to shift this headache though, because I'm having a Regency Birthday tea on Saturday, and I need to finish my new chemisette! I also was toying with the the idea of making Mummy a new dress, she hasn't had one in aaaages! Then next week and the week of half term I'm planning to use to make an Edwardian white linen waist to wear with my beige check linen skirt. We're planning to do something in Edwardian kit at the end of half term, either a trip on the steam railway or even just a picnic. I've not finalised the style yet, but I want something summery and pretty! I need to watch Room with a View for some ideas! Oh pooh, I need to do something for Mummy too don't I!?!? EEK!!!

Thank you! This is the same fabric my new spencer is made from, which still isn't finished!

Ooh, Megan, where did you get the curls and the Chignon from? I tried to get some pin in curls earlier in the year, but all my attempts failed!

The curls are made from human hair that I bought from an ethnic hair shop, it's sold as a weave for hair extensions. I cut off a lock and fastened one end with a band, cutting off the edge, then I wetted it and added some setting lotion (the stuff old ladies use to set their curls, it's a scary green colour! but I got it from Tesco I think) I smoothed it out into a ribbon and wrapped it in a spiral around a huge wooden knitting needle. Once dry, I slipped out the needle and it was a rock solid ringlet! It sets in exactly the shape you put it when wet, so if youwant a long ringlet you need a long knitting needle! They do get a bit ratty and have to be washed and re-set every now and then, but these have lasted for about a year, they need re-doing now though, the ends have got a bit floppy!
The chignon is a length of dirt cheap hair for braided hair extensions, it's called something like kanekalon and cost a couple of pounds. I braided the hank into one long braid and twined it around into an 'S' shaped sipiral: Image (http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/mlsdesigns/bustle%20era/pink%20bustle/?action=view&current=DSCF3368.jpg)
I fastened it with hair grips and wrapped a net around to keep it in place. The large plastic pins held it on my head :)

My guess is one of the three Graces, cuz you have the hoops from the game of graces in your hands. If that's correct, it's very clever. The new gown looks gorgeous! As does the hair. It's neat to see all the different hair accessories you used to get that look. It's all so pretty!
