cream crackered!
May. 16th, 2006 01:22 pmi am exhausted! on sunday i had rehearsals 2:00 till 8:30 , then yesterday i was in school from 1:00 till 9:30, today i came in at 11:30, and i might get to leave at 9:00! but tomorrow i don't finish till 10:30. gaaah! and it doesn't even end there, cos the sixth form plays are next week, so rehearsals all weekend again, then finishing at at least 10:30 on wednesday and thursday. it's not fair! but at least it's half term next friday, so a week off should help! but then a few weeks later it's time for the yr 7 plays, i think we have 60 odd eleven year olds, and they all need costumes... for the Arabian Nights!!
and i have a craft fair on monday 29th, so my spare time now is all devoted to making teddy bears and jewellery, so any thought of sewing pretu dresses has to be viciously squashed!
on the plus side, it was my birthday last week, and daddy bought me a new audio book (actually i bought it and he's going to pay me back!) i already had an unabridged emma and pride and prejudice, so i also got sense and sensibility. i'm trying to get all of the austens, unabridged, cos i love listening to them when i'm sewing. if i watch tv, or even costume dramas i've seen a hundred times, it distracts me a bit!
i also bought a lovely book by the national trust, on hats and bonnets from the snowshill collection: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1905400098/026-9681362-0933200 it has some lovely photos, and info on the different types of headwear, including the different types of straw and straw braids and things. what's so great is that nancy bradfield was the curator of the collection at one point... when she was writing costume in detail! there are gorgeous photos of a hat i saw in C in D and wanted to make, and now i've seen it in colour i'm definitely going to make it!!
i've odered the ribbon for my 1860s bonnet, and some ribbon for the sash and trim on the ball gown, and some lovely fabric for a regency dress and a spencer or pelise.
talking baout my bonnet i'm having trouble finding a pattern for it, any one have any ideas? i did find one commercial pattern, but it's in the states, so postage would be more than the pattern! even if i could find a diagram of the pattern peices that would help!
