what to do first
Jan. 22nd, 2008 01:36 pmso, because i can't decide what to make first, i'm making nothing :) it's mostly cos i'm back at work 4 days a week, and i was reeeally ill this saturday and super busy on sunday, but i think i'm a bit stuck at the moment.
the thing i should do first is the thing needed first, right? OK, so that means sort out my ball gown anfd make mummy's bits and bobs. the sewing room is FULL at the moment, we all sit in their in the evenings, mummy hasn't retired yet so her work stuff is all in there, and clare has a crafty fit on and has been sewing :) also i always start with the undies, doing the chemise first, wich i can't do cos i have no lawn, and need to go to london to get it, and i have to book tickets far in advance cos they're so expensive otherwise :( so that leaves me with her corset or crinoline, nice easy starters!!
i was thinking i would have her wear my crinoline and make over the petticoat for her too. having danced in it, at long last, it's much too long, so if i have to take off the waistband anyway, i may as well make it for her instead. i think my skirts end up too big for me you see, and mummy is both a little bit taller and a little bit stouter, so the bigger skirts will suit her more i think. (luckily we're such a similar size we can probably swap skirts and undies if we want to, i made the crinoline waistband with a buckle, and the petticoat can have another bar added for the hook.) i put my corset on her, and appart from the bust gussets being FAR too small it fits, so no pattern drafting is needed! YAY! mummy has a teeny tiny ribcage, smaller than mine actually, but a bigger chest.
do any of you remember, back ages ago i made a purple plaid dress? well, i think i made it much too old for me, but it will be so perfect for mummy! i have lots of fabric left, but all i will need to do is cut new bodice fronts i think, so that will be an easy thing for me to make for her for walking at the victorian festival.
so, hmm, in all this rambling did i actually make any decisions?!! oh yes, to make mummy's corset :) and i'll book some tickets to london as soon as i can.
oh well, back to work :(
