Yes, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is wonderful and has the Costume Institute downstaris from the Eguptian exhibits. I am sorry to say that I believe the costume institute is currently between major exhibits. The Poiret exhibit closed in August and the next one opens in December I think. I am not sure what ir if they are displaying any garments at the moment.
Rockefeller center is a few buildings near touristy shopping, Radio City Music Hall and St. Patrick's Cathedral. It is best known for the plaza with the ice rink where the big christmas tree is every year. If you like ice skating it is a fun thing to do and the rink is now open. http://rapatina.com/iceRink/
