non updatey update :)
Mar. 3rd, 2008 01:33 pmwow it's been ages since my last post, i am a very bad eljayer, but i'm sure no one wants to hear me whine that i can't sew cos of work, or cos i'm lazy :) but i'm getting so frustrated!
we finished one play a week ago, and last week i had a funeral on the monday and the dentist on the thursday, and was manically making stuff for the next play wich is next week HELP!!!! i even took work home with me, which i hate doing, but at least it was a fun thing :) the play we are doing is about jesus's teachings involving children, and involves children from practically every year in the school. the littlest children are part of our "rent a crowd", they spend most of their time on stage doing nothing, so we wanted them to have something to do, so i've made the little girls some rag dolls and the little boys some sheep :) i'll have to take photos, i'm very proud of my sheep and dollies :p
all this means that mummy's dress has been taking a bit of a back seat, if i'm not working on school stuff or sleeping off YET ANOTHER trip to the dentist i'm too tired to work on her dress when i get home from work. but yesterday at dancing i found out that the rest of our group who are also going to the ball in wales will be dressing up for the morning practice, and the tea in the afternoon, and the coffee morning the next day, so not only do i have to make the rest of mummy's undies and a ball dress, i have to make her a day dress to :( (at least the day dress is just a remake of the one i made for me a couple of years ago, the purple plaid that looked a bit too old for me when i'd made it, but should be perfect for mummy.) the up side is i now NEED to make her a bonnet, instead of just wanting to :)
the ball is on the 12th of april, at the end of my 3 week long easter holliday, so hopefully i'll be able to get everything done, and maybe even make a day bodice for my blue ball gown skirt so i can wear something different for the coffee mornign the next day :)
mummy's chemise and drawers are totally finished, her corset is done exept for finishing the binding on the top and putting in the grommets, i WILL finish it tonight, i'm sure i'll be able to, there's no rehersal today so i get home at 5, the rest of this week i think there's a rehersal every day, including saturday :(
i just ordered the stuff for mummy's crinnoline, i'm trying this http://www.venacavadesign.co.uk/Products/TripleFlex.html for most of the hoops, using steel for the bottom couple, to try and keep the weight down, she couldn't dance in my crinoline for long, she finds it all too heavy, so i'll keep you posted on how well it works. if it doesn't come soon enough to make the crinoline next i'll probably start patterning the ball gown bodice, i think i can do that without skirts to start with, and if it's still not here, i'll work on her bonnet :p (i love millinery!!)
ok, ramble over, as is my lunch break! back to work, i still have to try and find a nun like outfit for a mother superior, and make more fish, jesus' deciples were fishermen after all :) is it ever going to get finished?!

Date: 2008-03-03 02:02 pm (UTC)There must be something in the water these days because I have also been crazy busy with work. However, I haven't had to go to the Dentist so I think I have had it easier than you. :p

Date: 2008-03-03 08:12 pm (UTC)We have decided to purchase some items for David. I found this website:
http://www.gentlemansemporium.com/mens_victorian_clothing.php?from=topnav
We also have a plan B just in case... the Victorian evening wear looks very similar to some of the modern evening wear. If we aren't able to get the items sent to us in time, we may just rent him formal wear that is fairly close and then do the accessories. Either way, we will have the clothing for the event after, if it doesn't work out for this one.

Date: 2008-03-03 09:18 pm (UTC)they have some very nice clothes on that site, yes, gent's evening styles are very like modern tail coats, but day clothes are more different, unless you want to look like you've escaped from ascot :) i envy you for having a man to dance with :p

Date: 2008-03-04 11:07 am (UTC)He's done some set dancing. They were done in the Medieval style, but still interpreted from Playford in many cases. Some were the same as I had done for Regency dance. So I think he will be alright for those, if there are any. He hasn't ever done ballroom however. I absolutely love ballroom dancing. He has been working this horrid schedule for the last year, but we've learned that he will go to Monday-Friday regular days with weekends off starting in two weeks. Yay! Now that we can plan things for a specific day, I am hoping to get some ballroom classes in there beforehand. The problem is that the place I found just started their new session. I think their next session doesn't start until April. Hopefully, we can work something out.

Date: 2008-03-04 03:55 pm (UTC)I looked at the map and Seagrave is only about 50 minutes drive from our house (we live just outside Kettering). I was hoping to take the train as being on a train in the Victorian costumes would have been cool, but that is such a short drive that it doesn't really make sense. I think we would be able to make a dance practice in the morning with no worries. :)
