i finished my corset (forgot to take pics though!) made a petticoat and finished my shift, and i patterned and fitted my bodice lining! i think this means, knowing me, everything will go horridly wrong tomorrow!
any way, i promised pics, (and brain picking!) so,
we had so much trouble taking phtots, my camera is on it's very last legs!
Photobucket
i don't like the petticoat, but i think the dress will look ok over it, if not i can always make another one!
Photobucket
i'm so over the moon with the shape my stays give, my boobs look so good :p
Photobucket
only trouble is, i had to cut the lining very low to avoid poufyness, but the bodice propper will cover my undies!
Photobucket
looking at the photos, i'm wondering if i may have cut the back too high?
anyway, this is kind of what i want to end up with
Photobucket
the colour is much more fuchsia in person :) i want to do an apron front with a gathered bodice with drawstrings. now my question is, if i have the apron front on a drawstring to tie round the back, how do i stop the skirt and bodice from coming apart at the centre front? do i just pin it to the bodice lining?
next question, i was planning to include the decorated end of the sari in the skirt, as the back panel, making it longer to form a train, that didn't look good, so i tried having it the same length all round, but still using the decorated back panel. i don't think i like this either!
Photobucket
so i think i'm just going to make it simple :)
Photobucket
i'll save the end, i might make a separate court type train later.
the sleeves will just be puffed, and i'm going to make them sparkly too, otherwise i think the bodice will look out of place with the deep hem decoration.

also i had a text this evening from my boss wanting me to go into school to sort out some indian clothes for a parent to borrow. i replied saying i could go tomorrow, but she has to find the stuff in her loft, so she's not doing it till tomorrow evening, so i have to go on thursday instead, the only time mummy can take me in, and i'll be stuck there all morning. i wasn't supposed to be going in at all this week, i was in on saturday for goodness sake, and this is a school! a private school to boot! they take advantage of me so much :(

I adore that fabric! It's going to be gorgeous.

The petticoat looks fine. I think there's just a certain oddness to the way Regency petticoats look, and the dress does cover it :)

there is a certain advantage to living in an area where WASPs are the minority, leicester has the biggest population of asians (indians) in the country i think, so there are lots and lots of sari shops! (not that this one came from a sari shop, i 'borrowed' it from school!)

Very pretty fabric. Yes, I agree that the simplest is better. If it is long enough, you could use the pallu for one of those trains that drape from the shoulders later.

thank you, i couldn't remember the word!! yes, it's actually really long, it'll make a really nice detachable train i think, but not for this ball, much too dangerous :p
