Oops, forgot!
May. 24th, 2009 12:21 amI meant to post a health update! It seems I might have gallstones.
On tuesday night as I went to bed I had a bit of back ache, it woke me at about midnight having turned into a really bad pain, and after a few minutes it moved to the front of my chest too, just on my right, at about bra band level. I don't think I can remember having any pain as bad as that, I couldn't speak all I could do was writhe and thrash trying to find a position where it didn't hurt and sob and cry. Mummy gave me painkillers and when they still didn't work rang the out of hours service for the GPs surgery, when he rang back the pain had either subsided a bit or I was more used to it because I was then able to lie down, but I was still in so much pain I couldn't get enough breath to be able to speak properly. He said that it might be gallstones, but that I'd better go to hospital anyway, so he organised an ambulance and we waited. He also said to give me some anti spasmodic medication I'd had a while ago for my suspected IBS. Either the pain was going anyway or the anti spasmodic worked, but when the ambulance arrived 2 hours later I was pretty much better, just a dull ache and very tired and sore from all the thrashing about I'd done at the beginning. The Drs did blood tests and a chest xray to see if they could find anything, and eventually sent me home 4 hours later. They said it could be gallstones, but the boss Dr, without seeing me, told my Dr she thought it was probably gastric reflux. We could tell my Dr thought this was as daft a suggestion as we did :)
So, having been woken after 2 hours sleep at midnight, we finally got home at about 9am!!! We slept till after lunch then rang the GP, he sent off for an ultrasound appointment and I got the letter this morning, it's in 2 weeks, and hopefully will show that yes, I do have gallstones, because then at least they can treat me and it won't happen again. I had an attack like this once back at Christmas time, at night again, but nothing like as severe, and once in the autumn, but in the afternoon, and again, not as bad. Mummy did say then that the pain sounded like gallstones, but it went away and didn't come back, so I forgot about it and did nothing.
I've put myself on a low fat diet, since that's the pre op treatment, and it's killing me not being able to eat as much chocolate as I'd like :) I know tomorrow will be extra hard, all the cake we'll be making that I can't eat :( But I'm too scared to risk another night like Tuesday, the Dr said that a fatty meal can bring on an attack, so I'm taking no chances.
