So, last weekend we went to Hampshire for a Regency ball. It was held in a fabulous Georgian building that's been a school since the '20s, and the next day about half of the attendees went to a local National Trust place in Regency costume. Of course, you guys would know all this by now if I wasn't such a lazy bum and had actually got around to posting some pictures!!!
Anyway, I thought, since we have another ball tomorrow, that I ought to post the pictures for you now! So, if you will follow me this way,

On our way to Hampshire (after staying the night with my Aunt in Berkshire) I suddenly noticed we were going past Chawton! I've never visited the home of my idol, so since we had an hour or so to spare we stopped!

Photobucket

Unfortunately we didn't have time to go round the house, but we stopped in the bookshop (and spent far too many pennies!) had lunch in the tea shop opposite and took a photo ;)

Photobucket

The ball was a masqued ball, so I made masks for Mummy and me, and Clare made a fabulously glittery one for herself :)

Photobucket

Mummy's new turban, made with help from Lynn McMaster's turban tutorials. The ball dress code stipulated 'Almack's Rules' so she's sporting her plumes and cocades and diamonds ;)

Photobucket

Clare's new dress. Poor thing was pretty chilly all evening, she has a bad knee and the afternoon practice made it flare up so badly that she wasn't able to do any of the dances at the actual ball :( But it was aftr I made this dress, and realised how pretty it turned out, that I decided I needed a new dress too!

Photobucket

I felt like a fairy princess all evening, it floats about me as I dance is such a pretty way!

Photobucket

The fabric is a sari, with a heavily embroidered hem, but it's a much narrower trim than usual, so I thought it would really lend itself to this crossover style.

Photobucket

the Pelu had even more embroidery on it, so it just had to be turned into a train :)

Photobucket

The costumes at this ball were all pretty fabulous! And there were so many men that had made an amazing effort!

Photobucket

The next morning we were ready in our kit a long time before it was time to go to Uppark, so I took the opportunity to get some photos.

Photobucket

Here we are on the steps of the school building, what a fantastic place to go to school!

Photobucket

The gentlmen were dressed just as smartly the next day too :)

Photobucket

Uppark! The building was completely gutted by fire in the '80s, but you'd never know it to look at it. You can see what a lovely day we had for our tour, the sky was so unbelievably blue!

Photobucket

The croud outside the house, listening to our tour guide.

Photobucket

This lady had a lovely muff and tippet, not to mention her gorgeous blue pelise! I was so inspired I've spent the last day or so turning an ancient appricot coloured rabbit fur coat into a muff and tippet of my own :)

Photobucket

Eating lunch in the Ntional Trust tea shop. And a look at what we had on under our warm layers!

This week I've not just been lazy, I've been busy busy busy getting ready for this weekend! I've been sorting out the house for all the ball guests we have staying with us, and yesterday and today I was cooking too. But inbetween I have been sewing.
When I made my brown velvet spencer it started out as a pelise, but I decided I liked it better as a spencer. I kept the skirt part though, and it is now hemmed and sewn to a little bodice like thingy (like the riding habbit in Patterns of Fashion) made from the same silk as the lining of the spencer.
I also made Mummy a new hat, green velvet, that is so plush it's almost like fur! Trimmed with turkey feathers, a green ribbon half rossette and a brown silk bow with a gold buckle, as well as my new muff and tippet. I will try really hard to take more pictures this weekend, and I may even get them posted before the next event!!

Wow, thank you!
I'm very lucky because I live in the midlands, which has a huge Indian population, so there are many many sari shops. The one this fabric came from is only about 10 minutes drive away!

Ha ha everyone! I got to see the dress in person! :D

Seriously, though, I love that ballgown. It is very flattering both to your figure and your coloring. I think it is my favorite of all of your dresses!

I'm sorry that we missed going to Uppark! Both David and I woke with terrible headaches. To have headaches like that, you would think we would at least get to enjoy a good drunk the night before, wouldn't you? Oh well. It won't be the last event ever. :)

When do you want to get together? Next week is our last week before we leave on our cruise and we'd like to get together for dinner or something soon. If Claire is still home, maybe we can go to that Thai restaurant in LB. Or maybe even if she isn't.
;-)

You did indeed! But it's not polite to gloat :D
I'm so pleased with it too, I feel like a princess in it!
We must get together this week then! Mummy doesn't know what her movements will be yet this week though, she starts a round of interviews at the start of each month you see. What evenings are you free?

I just asked David and he said we are free (or at least flexible) every night except Thursday. We are also free this coming weekend, if we can't get together earlier.

Can you manage tomorrow?! I know it's very soon :)
That way Mummy can not go to work tomorrow, she's knackered and has hurt her shoulder, so driving round addresses all day would not be good for her. If she's going to be busy in the evening then she doesn't need to go out in the day.

Sure. Where and what time? Or perhaps better to call with that info? We don't want the papperazzi showing up! :D

Wow! You all look wonderful. I really like the new turban. And your new ballgown looks so much like that Met gown that has the crossover front and gold embroidery. So pretty!

Thank you! Turbans are so much fun! And they make hairdressing very easy, which makes Mummy very happy :)
I don't think I've seen the dress you mean, do you have the link? I'm intrigued to see!
